Central Suites Barcelona is located in the Casa Camila Fabra, a building dating from the modernist period, an architectural movement of which Gaudí is the leading exponent. Features wonderful modernist doors on the lifts and panelling on the different ceilings, a fusion of modernism with French details, a result of the influences the owner absorbed while studying in the city of Paris.
The Casa Camila Fabra was first built on Paseo de Gracia for the marquises of Alella, when the road was still a highway that linked the city of Barcelona with the population of Gracia. The property was used as a weekend residence, while the habitual home of the marquises was situated in one of the palaces that currently forms part of the Picasso Museum on Calle Montcada.
Years later, Ildefons Cerdà designed the urban plan known as Ensanche with the objective of giving some order to the expansion of Barcelona. To achieve this, he drew a multitude of new streets creating his famous grid of blocks. One of these streets was Diputació whose route was to cross the Casa Camila Fabra. The owners were therefore obliged to change location and, brick by brick, they dismantled the building in order to rebuild it, this time on Rambla Catalunya. They took advantage of this opportunity to align the house with the shape of the corner, thus gaining more space, and orienting it to face south thereby getting more sunlight.
The floor on which Central Suites Barcelona can be found was redesigned at the end of 2011. The original features of the apartment were preserved, floors and ceilings that hads survived hidden under previous works.
The managers of Central Suites Barcelona, Belén and Pedro, are not only descendants of the initial owners of the house, but also keen travellers. Having completed a one year round the world trip, they made every effort to convert these suites into ideal apartments, the kind that they would like to find on their own travels.
The various photos that decorate the apartments were taken by Belén and Pedro during their round the world trip.
